Going out on your own is the easy decision. Getting set up is the part that stops people. Here is the list of what to sort, and we do the bit at the end: a proper website with online booking, and the software that sends your quotes and invoices, from your first job.
What you need to sort, in order
None of this is complicated, it is just nobody ever writes it down for you. Most of it you can do yourself this week, for free.

Get your ABN
Free, online, about fifteen minutes at abr.gov.au. You need it before you can invoice anyone, and you need it to sign up here.

Sort your licence
Most trades need a WA licence or registration in your own name or your business's. Check what yours needs before you quote work.

Get insured
Public liability at minimum, and most builders will not let you on site without a certificate of currency. Talk to a broker who knows trades.

Open a business bank account
Keep it separate from your own money from day one. It makes tax time, and your bookkeeping, dramatically less painful.

Know the GST threshold
You register for GST once you turn over $75,000 a year, or straight away if you would rather. Your accountant will tell you which suits you.

Common questions
Do I own the website?
Yes. After your 12 monthly payments, the website, its files and the domain setup are yours to keep, even if you stop using ONARA Ops.
What if I cancel early?
The bundle is a 12-month commitment, because it includes building your website. If you leave before then, the remaining balance on the site build is payable. After 12 months there is no lock-in and you can leave any time.
What is the price after month 12?
$68 a month: $49 for ONARA Ops and $19 for hosting and support. The website itself is paid off, so you are only paying to run the software and keep the site online.
Can I upgrade to a bigger site later?
Yes. The one-page site suits most businesses starting out, and you can move up to a larger, multi-page website whenever you are ready. Just ask.
